About the Glass artisan Mici

MY STORY

I fancied myself a cat person (though I love all animals), and hadn't had a dog in my life since childhood. One day, out of the blue in 2016, I felt a strong urge to rescue a pupper, so I talked to my husband about it. It wasn't an easy task as he had some trauma from his last dog, which I didn't know about. It took a month of talking and processing before I heard a maybe (which means yes, right?!!?) Incidentally, I never had kids, but even as a child I always thought if I did, one of them would be deaf. I was currently taking a sign language class when this urge to rescue hit me. I went to one of those dog dating sites where you search the distance, breed, age and sex of what you are looking for. 

I was moved to tears at what came on my screen when I searched border collie. Instant connection! She was a 4 year old black and white border collie and named Charlie. I had what they call in French a "coup de foudre" (lightning bolt) that struck me and I was mesmerized for several minutes, just crying and falling in love. I thought, "I better click and find out more..." Once I did I saw she was deaf and the deal was done. I picked her up the next day. She was renamed Shadow. This 35lb. fur angel changed my life. Literally as well as figuratively. I started working from home to be with her (she had had a neglectful upbringing and needed a lot of attention.... 12 hours of play a day is what I gave her!). She felt like the child I never had and I cried out of joy randomly throughout our day together. 

We were thick as thieves and did everything together. She completed me and healed so many facets of my life. I thought to myself, "I'll never have another dog after her."  Until she passed suddenly 2 years later at 6 years old. We had 5 minutes to decide what to do. We took her to her favorite park and played frisbee till she couldn't stand anymore. Then the travel vet, helped her let go of her body. It was the easiest and hardest thing I have ever had to do. We buried her under our avocado tree in the back yard.  Within 3 days I was looking again for another pup, not to replace her, but to continue the joy and light work we had started together.  I now had a skillset to work with deaf and high energy working dogs, so I didn't want to waste it. There are so many unloved dogs out there. Aspen, a double amputee border collie, was a karmic pet after Shadow, and I now have an Aussie  (Cedar) and another deaf and partially blind border collie (Starling)  -both double red merle.  They make my life sparkle and I enjoy every minute with them, as I know these little fur angels don't stay long. 

The transformation into a dog person is complete!

I was a lampworker (glass artist) already, but Shadow drew compassion out of me for all the pet owners that have to separate from their fur babies. My experience with her allowed me to shine with ideas and empathy for those with loved ones of the furry variety. These angels seem to touch us deeply, with sincerity and genuine innocence and a light that is angelic -hence the name of my site.

I'm honored to create each piece with love. The cameo pet silhouettes and miniatures are an inspiration from Shadow. More dog breeds and other animals added each month.  You'll see that our products have been named after a furry friend that touched our lives. I also can make pieces with ashes from  angels of the human variety, if that calls to you. Love is love, and that's what we will put into these pieces together.  If you don't have ashes, fur, or feathers, something meaningful can be added instead (such as color of their collar, a piece of cloth or a picture). 

It's mostly about the intention of the love we feel for them.

We are blessed when we  are loved by a fur angel.  Spread the joy they spark within us!
